Hello PES Families! Our school is continuing to take part in an exciting, community-wide shared reading event. Today, after our newest special school-wide assembly, your child received a copy of the book—Friendship According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney—and again is being asked to read it with his or her family at home over the next few weeks. We ask you to make the time to read the book together so your family can participate in this fun reading experience. The information below is being sent home with all students, will be emailed to all families, and can be found in our newsletter.

🌟 We wrapped up our Q1 awards assemblies on Tuesday and today, celebrating our amazing students and their achievements! Each class got to attend with their School Buddies, adding to the excitement and camaraderie. 🥇 Students were recognized for their hard work, and awards will be sent home to celebrate with family. We had our first Tower Garden harvest of this year! Mrs. Elin and our linguistically gifted students harvested lettuce and more from our Tower Garden, which then went right to our cafeteria to be used in fresh salads for our staff and students! #PESPantherPride

This week, we shine our PES Educator Spotlight on Ms. Veronica August. Ms. August teaches 4th and 5th grade ELA and 5th Grade Science and Social Studies. She has taught for 22 years here at PES. She has a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with a concentration in SPED from Penn West Clarion and a Master’s in Implementing Technology in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. Ms. August plans to keep teaching her heart out and educating students well into the future! We are so thankful that Ms. August has made the Panther Pride Den her home! #PESEducators #PESPantherPride

Join Us for Academic Night at Preston Elementary on Wednesday, November 20th! There will be Food Trucks & Warm Drinks starting at 5 PM and Games, a Book Raffle & more fun from 6-7:15 PM. Bring the whole family for an evening of learning, laughter, and community connection! Plus, we’re excited to support a food drive sponsored by the Ruritan Club. Donate a canned good or non-perishable food item at the event, and each student who donates will be entered in a drawing for free ice cream or snacks from the cafeteria! Winners will be announced the next day. We can’t wait to see you there for a night of fun and giving back!

In addition to having our Veterans Day program, today was also our annual Grandparents Day! We are so thankful that many of our grandparents could join their students today! Our grandparents attended classes, ate in our lunchroom, played at recess, and had a full day of fun! #PESPantherPride

Thank you to all the veterans and guests who attended and made this day so special! A special shoutout to Superintendent Dr. Simmons, Board Member Troy Plutschak, our inspiring guest speaker Mr. Neil Elin, and Mr. List for organizing this wonderful program. Our Panther mascot made a special delivery today, awarding the very first 3 Multiplication Driver's Licenses to Kamden, Carson, and Isaid! 🎉 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have been working hard, earning their multiplication brag tags, and are on the road to achieving their licenses. This week, we shine our PES Educator Spotlight on Mrs. Lisa Murray. Mrs. Murray has taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade inclusion special education at PES for 30 years! She has a Master's in Special Education from UMES and a Graduate Certification in Autism from JHU. Mrs. Murray also has training and certifications in Lindamood Bell, Wilson Reading Intervention, OG+ Reading Intervention, and LETRS. Mrs. Murray is now planning for retirement as this is her farewell year! We are so thankful that Mrs. Murray has made the Panther Pride Den her home! #PESEducators #PESPantherPride
