Colonel Richardson's recent refurbished gymnasium floor was recently dedicated to long time basketball coach and school counselor Merrill Morgan, who passed away in 2022.
Coach Morgan's teams won over 500 games during his tenure that began in the late 1960s and continued until 2005. Although these victories are impressive, it was Coach Morgan's impact on the lives of others that was a main theme of the ceremony that took place between the Girls Varsity and Boys Varsity Basketball games.
The Morgan family was in attendance for the dedication. Coach Morgan’s son talked about his father's drive for opportunities for all students and his fairness when working with players, students, and others. Long time Boys JV Basketball coach and current Girls Varsity Basketball coach Tommy Corsey shared details of Coach Morgan's legacy and the players that helped to create it.
The ceremony concluded with Coach Corsey calling all former players in attendance onto the floor to be photographed with the Morgan family as they surrounded Coach Morgan's signature which is now painted on the gym floor.
